Crackle Glass Beads

Crackle Glass also known as Craquelle Glass, Ice Glass, and Overshot Glass is a technique used to create a cracked finish. The effect increases the reflective quality of the glass making it appear to sparkle. The Venetian glass markers of the 16th century invented the process of the "crackle" heating and cooling technique. The glass is immersed in cold water while it is molten hot. This causes the outer layer of glass to crack. The glass is then reheated and either molded or hand-blown into the shape the glass blower desires. The reheating of the glass seals the cracks. If you run your hands over the crackle beads, they feel smooth to the touch.
